About
Eselsberg = Donkey Mountain

"Donkey Mountain" from the West, in the setting sun
The Eselsberg is a hill above Ulm, Germany, and the place where I work and live. Literally translated, Eselsberg means Donkey Mountain – what a fitting name for the location of a university campus … and just in case you’re interested, there is indeed also a Kuhberg, or Cow Mountain in Ulm, but the ménagerie stops there.
Universität Ulm and the Eselsberg area on Google Maps
At Universität Ulm, I work as a professor in the Institute of Electron Devices and Circuits, predominantly on microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits. My “other job” as the director of the Communications Technology Master program takes me to many countries of the world, which is an interesting side effect. And I am also an avid radio ham, love the outdoors, and occasionally still work as an emergency medical technician with the German Red Cross in Ulm.
That pretty much sets the stage of what I will be blogging about.

I like this “About” page! Kind of a handful of almost everything!
